Approaching Art
Approaching Art is an ongoing photographic project and book — a gathering of portraits and encounters with some of the most significant artists of the 21st century.
The project was born from my long-standing friendship and collaboration with the late Jack Vettriano, whose presence and influence shaped my understanding of artistic life. From that meeting place emerged a wider question: what does it mean to be an artist now?
Working primarily on film, in natural light, and within the context of each subject’s space, I approach portraiture as a dialogue rather than documentation.
Approaching Art is both archive and study: a portrait of individuals and, collectively, a reflection on the evolving identity of the artist in the 21st century.
